To Keep In Touch
Well now it is almost February. It is beautiful weather in Edmonton, Alberta,Canada where I live. A little snow on the ground but above 0 degrees which is very unusual for this time of the year. I have become very busy with lots of things to do.
To expand a little on my Life Coach practice. With covid shut down in 2020 I decided to forfeit my clinical counselling practice office and retire for a little while. I was very tired and really needed to pay better attention to my health. I gave up my couunselling association membership too. I knew I would work again but needed time to put together a business plan and follow my dreams at a later date. So out of that, with deep thought and much planning, I decided to do this website and store. So far few people have been interested in the store. Some questions have come forward about the Life Coach service so right now I will concentrate on expanding on it..
I have been trained professionally as a Deserve Coach or better described as a Self Sabotage Coach. As far as experience is concerned I was a counsellor for over 30 years and accomplished a Ph.D in counselling. I began my career, at a young age with two small children, in door to door and party sales. It was excellent experience as the work was with the woman of the house and I heard many many stories. Some were happy and some very sad. I always tried to bring a ray of sunchine into their homes. I did very well and was top sales in Canada with two different companies. Later I worked in retail in a Health Food store. I also worked for a time in a women’s clothing store.
I entered the field of social work when I answered an ad in the newspaper for an advocate position working in a women shelter. For two years I helped battered women understand what the court process would be and answered all sorts of questions they had about a meriad of topics. I went onto accept a position at another shelter as Executive Director. It was a new grass roots project with all new staff and a board of directors. It was an eye opening position that I still hold close to my heart. From there I took a position of Executive Director at a Justice Initiative Center where we ran 4 programs in the community and I supervised staff and students who were enrolled in the MSW program at the nearby University where I too was taking courses. Leaving Ontario, I came to Edmonton and was the first Executive Director of P.A.T.C.H Place. a community agency that ran programs for the working poor and low income in South Edmonton. Not liking the cold winter in Edmonton I accepted a position in British Columbia at an agency where I ran the sexual abuse program for women. I then opened a private practice which I operated for 5 years in Penticton and I finished my education graduating with a Ph.D. I worked contract with several companies and one of those contracts hired me as a Regional Manager. That brought me back to Edmonton and after 12 years with the corporation, covid hit and here I am now.
So, life coaching is about patterns in ones life that you are not happy with and you want to change it but don’t know how to succeed. It is about facing failure and the fear of success. It is about relationships and how you affect people in your life and how they affect you. It is about knowing your dreams and achieving them. It is about changing patterns that have been rooted in your life.
Personally, I have suffered divorce and raisied two boys as a single mother. I have suffered loss and grieved the deaths of a spouse, 2 best girlfriends;..a major part of my support system, deaths of my mother in law and both my parents who were elderly and in an assisted living situation. My one friend died by medically induced suicide, several aunts and cousins too.. passed too.On another topic, I have survived for many years as a type 1 diabetic diagnosed at the age of 7 years. I had 1 mis-carriage and then my two sons who were large babies, due to having a diabetic mother. Maybe I should also put in here that both sons were teenagers together, and as a single mom they joined together against mom alot as a 2 in 1 ratio prevailed. Those were tough years I must say.
Ten years ago I fell when getting my luggage off the carousel in an airport. I broke the femur bone. This was life changing. With the complications of diabetes causing neuropathy I used a cane and then graduated to a walker. I am just so grateful that I can walk. The accident also caused degeneration issues in my lower spine. The first pain I felt was at the accident and it never left me. I use prayer, along with glucosamine and the Plant of Life cannabis supplement to manage the pain.
So I have been very open with you this morning. My life is pretty well an open book. A few yers ago I wrote the book The Butterfly Flies which is still available on Amazon or from me if you would like it signed. It is a powerful little book that tells the story of my life and how I managed to handle some of the above situations. It is written so that anyone can understand concepts and I give resource suggestions too.
